What SRF classification communicates

EN ISO 21640 provides a classification system for solid recovered fuels produced from non-hazardous waste. It gives market participants a common language for key characteristics, but it does not certify suitability for every plant.

The plant specification remains decisive

The receiving operation may set additional parameters, narrower ranges, sampling rules and acceptance procedures. Those requirements need to be matched against the supplier’s input material, equipment, methodology and achievable process control.

Supply is a controlled relationship

Volume, production rhythm, storage, physical presentation, analysis, release, transport and receiving feedback are agreed together. This is how a classification becomes a repeatable industrial supply rather than a one-off result.

Classification is the start of the commercial specification, not the end.

Additional parameters	Plant operation may depend on moisture, ash, particle size, density and other constituents.	Contract limits, test methods and order of precedence.
Sampling	Heterogeneous material requires a representative plan rather than a convenient grab sample.	Lot definition, increment method, frequency, laboratory and retained samples.
Change control	Input or process changes can alter the produced SRF.	Notification triggers, corrective action and acceptance after a change.
