What are alternative fuels?

Alternative fuels are energy-bearing streams produced from recoverable materials instead of fossil fuels. ECURA energy works with refuse-derived fuel (RDF), solid recovered fuel (SRF), woodchip biomass and biogas production raw materials.

Is there a single standard alternative fuel?

Accepted Answer

No. What can be supplied, and in what quality, is determined case by case by the material used to produce the alternative fuel, the supplier's production equipment and methodology, and the receiving party's technical specification, permit conditions and acceptance limits. Capacity, technical specification and documentation are clarified at the start of each cooperation.

What is the difference between RDF and SRF?

Accepted Answer

Both are recovered fuels made from non-hazardous waste streams, but they are classified differently. SRF is specified and classified under the EN ISO 21640 framework, while RDF is typically defined by the receiving plant's own specification. The same material can meet one plant's specification and not another's.

Which industries do you supply?

ECURA energy supplies material flows to energy-intensive industry, with dedicated pages for cement plants and for energy-from-waste and CHP plants.

How is quality and compliance handled?

Quality is agreed against the receiving plant's specification, with the sampling and analysis basis, reporting parameters and documentation requirements defined at the start of each cooperation. Waste-shipment and permit requirements, including transfrontier shipment documentation where applicable, are part of that agreement.

Delivery is coordinated across road, maritime and intermodal transport depending on the route, with documentation and delivery reporting agreed per cooperation. See the capabilities page for details.

It starts with a conversation about the material, the volumes and the receiving plant's specification. Capacity, technical specification, delivery pattern, sampling and documentation are clarified at the start, and only the agreed written terms of that specific cooperation are binding.
